Announcement: All The Best Fine Foods and Summerhill Market

It is with great respect, admiration and excitement that we are pleased to announce that Summerhill Market has acquired All The Best Fine Foods assets through a legal receivership transaction on Tuesday September 6th, 2016.

Summerhill Market has always revered All The Best as one of the original and leading fine food destination gourmet shops in Toronto and has set the bar over its 30 year history as the pre-eminent location in midtown for cheeses, breads and pastries. Owners Jane Rodmell and Sue Merry will join the Summerhill Market team through a transitional phase to help keep the All The Best brand and products alive and well and become a significant aspect of Summerhill Market and its future growth plans.

Unfortunately the Yonge Street location will not be a part of this transaction and will be closed, however the Church Street location and the Leaside Commissary kitchen are and we expect to have them up and running almost immediately.

The majority of All The Best’s signature product lines will also now be featured in both Summerhill Market locations (446 Summerhill Ave and 1054 Mount Pleasant Rd) and we expect to feature many of Summerhill Market’s signature products at the Church location.

Please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @summerhillmkt for more current updates.

*Addendum: As of Sunday, September 18th, 2016 All The Best’s Church Street Location will also be closed for business. The Leaside Commissary kitchen is running as normal. Both Summerhill Market locations are now featuring the majority of All The Best signature product lines.

Update: March 31, 2016

Dear Neighbours and Customers,

In the spirit of our promise to keep you in the loop as our project rolls forward, we are pleased to tell you about our proposed development for both the RBC and Scoops properties adjacent to our store. This proposal is the result of years of discussion. The end result is a relatively simple project for a street and a neighbourhood that is anything but!

Our overarching objective here is to accommodate Summerhill Market customer traffic flow while preserving the sanctity of our neighbourhood. We will increase our parking spaces from 24 to 37 and feature an outdoor seasonal covered market area near the boulevard. Summerhill Market itself will receive a facelift and a modest 2 storey addition on the South of the building and basement. Also, a larger entrance vestibule where we can store our grocery carts and seasonal items. On the West side of the building, there will be a second floor addition covering 4 parking spots (2 handicapped spaces) and an enclosed waste and refuse area at the northwest corner of the building.

Please note that we are NOT building a café inside the store. There is not enough room for that. What we would like to do is replace what was offered at Scoops and offer coffee and an lunch counter for improved sandwiches and soup.

We are hoping to start construction this summer but are still in the midst of approvals and the permitting process. We are going to the Committee of Adjustment to seek some minor variances on April 6th and hope this will clear the way to apply for a building permit. We will let you know as soon as we have a construction timetable and a plan for store operation during construction.

We have assessed alternative designs, but we think this one provides the greatest benefit for all, and is the one that we believe is best suited for our neighbours, our neighbourhood and our customers. We will be back in touch just as soon as we have news to share with you.

Please feel free to speak to any of us directly in store or via email.
